Getting There

At this point of writing, Tioman can be reached through both air (flight) and water (ferries and speedboat).

Ferries to Tioman..

If your choice is speedboat or ferry, you can choose to reach Tioman either from Tanjung Gemuk (North of Mersing) or Mersing (Johore) jetty.
If you are on package to Tioman, a return ticket is usually included. From beautiful town of Mersing, the ferries can take up to 3 hours to reach Tioman, whilst the speedboat just usually take around an hour plus. The price is around RM35 (Ringgit Malaysia, USD11) each way and they leave every 2 hours between 7:00 to 18:00.

The frequency of boats and ferries services in Tanjung Gemuk is less than what Mersing has. But the prices and journey's time is more or less the same.

Fly to Tioman..

Berjaya air is the only air transport that offers flight to Tioman, and it has direct 40mins (approx.) flight from Kuala Lumpur (Subang Airport) and Singapore(Seletar Airport) to an airport at Tekek Village on Tioman.

Do refer Berjaya Air frequent update schedule for more information.

If you are no where near to these airports, there is an alternative, the closest airports to Mersing are the Senai airport in Johor Bahru and Changi airport in Singapore.

TiomanGuy: You should try air transportation, it is an ideal choice if you wanted to see Tioman's beauty up from the air.

Getting to Mersing..

Drive..

From Kuala Lumpur, the most easiest choice is to use the PLUS highway to the south, exiting at Segamat and continuing east on Route 50 through Kluang to Mersing. Alternatively, take the East Coast Highway (E8) from KL to Kuantan and Route No 3 southwards through Pekan and Rompin to Mersing. The journey's time from Kuala Lumpur to Mersing is approximately 4 hours 30 mins.

Alternatively, you could use public transport, mainly cab and bus. But cab from Kuala Lumpur to Mersing is highly unrecommended.

At Mersing..

There are many stores and restaurants at the ferry terminal itself, should you need to buy any last-minute-stuffs.

At the town of Mersing, (10-15 minutes walking from the terminal) there are banks, fast food restaurants, internet cafes, shops, supermarkets and hotels (in case you need to spend nights in Mersing).

Should you need anything, do not worry because Mersing's friendly citizens will definitely helps.
